Undefeated champion Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro), who was forced to miss an expected start in Friday's GI Kentucky Oaks due to a fever, returned to the track earlier this week and is doing well.
“She was back on the track Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Dan Ward, assistant to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. “Each horse is different in dealing with a fever. She got over it in quick fashion. There was nothing abnormal. Her blood was always good, so it was easy to get over. She's just happy to be back in training.”
A dominant winner of all seven of her lifetime starts, including the GII Las Virgenes S. and GIII Santa Ysabel S. earlier this year, the “TDN Rising Star” came down with a fever shortly after her sensational victory in the GI Santa Anita Oaks last time Apr. 9 forcing her to miss training for the Kentucky Oaks, where she was expected to be the heavy favorite.
