Godolphin's Ribchester (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) has been given the go-ahead by trainer Richard Fahey to make his final career start in the GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Del Mar on Nov. 4.
Ribchester, the winner of three Group 1s over a mile this year and one last year, was beaten a length when second in last weekend's G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. on British Champions Day, and Fahey said the 4-year-old has bounced out of that soft-going contest.
“He has kept his coat, he looks a picture, and clearly, he wants to go,” Fahey said. “He has done everything but tell me himself that he should be on the plane to California.”
“I'm very happy with him,” the trainer added. “He's in great order; he's very tough.”
Ribchester, who retires to Darley's Kildangan Stud next year, has been off the board just once in 15 starts and will be lining up for a Group/Grade I race for the 11th time.
