Oscietra Slated For January 1 Debut

David Hayes | Lindsay Park

Oscietra (Aus) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}), the first foal of the mighty Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}) continues to please connections as she edges towards her first day at the races. The filly finished to the fore on her second Flemington jump-out over 800m, showing pace and professionalism under Luke Nolen (who partnered her famous mother to the majority of her success) to leave co-trainer David Hayes strongly considering letting her make her racecourse debut at Flemington on New Years Day. “Luke was very happy with her and the time looked quite solid,” Hayes told Racing And Sports. “She just has to eat at a normal level and be sound in her legs for her to run and I'll only run her if I'm 100 per cent happy with her,” he added. Hayes feels Oscietra is thriving on her current workload and she has been giving all the right signals that she is ready to start racing. “When she first came to me she was a little bit of a light eater and now she's above average. She's eating all her feed and she's eating extra feed, so that's a great sign. Her food intact suggests she's starting to peak.”
