This year's dual group-winning 2-year-old Mehmas (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}–Luciana {GB}, by Machiavellian) will enter stud next year at Tony and Anne O'Callaghan's Tally-Ho Stud after the farm purchased a 50% interest in the Al Shaqab Racing-owned colt. Mehmas is likely to make his final start in the G1 Middle Park S. Sept. 24. Trained by Richard Hannon, the bay has yet to finish worse than second in seven outings. He broke his maiden at first asking at Chester May 5 and, after following up with a Newbury conditions win and a second in Sandown's Listed National S., was second to Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) in Royal Ascot's G2 Coventry S. June 14. Mehmas took the G2 July S. at Newmarket three weeks later followed by Goodwood's G2 Richmond S., and was second in his first try in Group 1 company in the G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National S. last weekend.
“Mehmas has been a joy to train,” said Hannon. “He has held his form all season and has been a model of consistency, as you saw once again at The Curragh on Sunday. He also showed real grit and determination to win the Richmond at the Qatar Goodwood Festival and his racing characteristics should stand him in really good stead for his stallion career.”
Tally-Ho Stud Manager Roger O'Callaghan added, “We are obviously hugely excited about Mehmas arriving at Tally-Ho Stud. His good looks and superb attitude on the racecourse will be a huge attribute to him as he embarks on his new career as a stallion.”
