Earning a tilt at the G1 Prix du Jockey Club with an impressive win in the Listed Prix de l'Avre over this course and distance May 23, Talismanic ran a solid race to be fourth in that 10 1/2-furlong Chantilly Classic June 5 which has taken on another dimension now that Almanzor (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) has gone on to greater things. Fifth but beaten just under three lengths in the July 14 G1 Grand Prix de Paris staged here last time, the dark bay returned from his summer sojourn with a vengeance to suggest a fruitful autumn. Anchored to race in fourth early, the homebred was sent to the front with a quarter mile remaining and drew away for a commanding score.
The winner is the best progeny so far out of the GIII Royal Heroine S. winner Magic Mission, who was also third on two occasions in the GI Matriarch S. The third dam Capo di Monte was successful in the GIII Vineland H. and runner-up in the GII Matchmaker S. and G2 Sun Chariot S. and is a half-sister to the G1 Aral-Pokal-winning highweight Wind In Her Hair (Ire) (Alzao) who was also runner-up in the G1 Epsom Oaks. Her claim to fame is being the dam of the dual Japanese Horse of the Year Deep Impact (Jpn), one of five black-type performers under her. Magic Mission also has an as-yet unraced 2-year-old filly by Pivotal (GB) and a yearling colt by New Approach (Ire) to follow.
