New York-bred Fourstar Crook (Freud) made her first stakes try out of restricted company count Tuesday as she kicked home convincingly to take her eighth consecutive trip to the winner's circle following Parx's Dr. James Penny Memorial S. Drifting up to 36-10 from a 2-1 morning-line quote, the Chad Brown trainee settled in off the pace and was second last as they hit the home bend. Given her cue to quicken by Joe Bravo after six furlongs in 1:12 2/5, the 5-year-old bay mare swung extremely wide and gobbled up ground down the center of the course to win by a widening 2 1/4-length margin. My Impression (Sky Mesa) nipped last-out GIII Galorette S. winner Cambodia (War Front) for runner-up honors. Fourstar Crook kicked off her 2017 season belatedly with a last-out tally in Belmont's Mount Vernon S. May 29 on yielding sod and over a stablemate.

Second in her lone start at two, Fourstar Crook was a close fourth in her sophomore debut, but has been a win machine since then. She earned her first black-type victory in the Yaddo S. at Saratoga last August, and added the John Hettinger Memorial S. Sept. 25.
Pedigree Notes:
Fourstar Crook's dam was trained by her breeder Kathleen Feron on behalf of the late and aforementioned John Hettinger's Akindale Farm. Her second dam was a full-sister to graded stakes winners Honorable Miss, Bailjumper and Syrianna. Avril a Portugal produced a full-sister to Fourstar Crook last year and a full-brother this term.
