Prince Of Caviar (Aus) (Sebring {Aus}), the second foal out of world champion sprinter Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}), had his first jumpout at Flemington on Friday morning (video). Wayne Hawkes, who trains the 2-year-old with his father John and brother Michael, told Racing.com after the 800 metre piece of work, “He was good. That's the most he's ever done. He had a good little look around. Dwayne [Dunn] could have swivelled him to the front if he wanted to, but we didn't want that. We wanted to go back, have horses around him, get a bit of mud thrown in his face and teach him what it's about to be in the ruck. As my father always told me, there's no money in jumpouts and barrier trials–you wait until raceday.”
Black Caviar, who was unbeaten in 25 starts, is already the dam of 3-year-old filly Oscietra (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), winner of her second start on Aug. 11. Team Hawkes trained Black Caviar's four-time Group 1-winning half-brother All Too Hard (Aus) (Casino Prince {Aus}), and Hawkes said of having charge of another member of the illustrious family, “We like to play it down anyway, to be honest. We try and let the horse do the talking. We've always been that way–if you're talking about Chautauqua, I'd say the same thing about him. The end result is this bloke's got enough on his plate with his Mum being his Mum, and his uncle being All Too Hard–he doesn't need me to blow his trumpet, that's for sure and certain. He's a pretty nice horse though.”
