Wednesday's seven-furlong novice at Kempton looked an intriguing affair on paper and Juddmonte's newcomer Detain (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}–Nisriyna {Ire}, by Intikhab) came through his first test with flying colours for the Gosdens. A half-brother to the stable's dual group 3 winner and G1 St Leger runner-up Arrest (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), the 9-4 second favourite recovered from a tardy start to race in mid-division early under Kieran Shoemark. Staying on strongly to lead passing the furlong pole, the €340,000 Goffs November Foal Sale graduate asserted to beat Afentiko (Ire) (Hello Youmzain {Fr}) by two lengths.
Alongside Arrest, the unraced dam is also responsible for the G3 Centenary Vase winner and G1 Hong Kong Gold Cup-placed Dinozzo (Ire) (Lilbourne Lad {Ire}) and the listed-placed Spring Loaded (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}). Also the second dam of this year's G3 Park Express Stakes runner-up Alpheratz (Ire) (Phoenix Of Spain {Ire}) and half to the G3 Prix de Flore and G3 La Coupe winner and G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and G1 Nassau Stakes-placed Narniyn (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), she has a yearling colt by Dark Angel (Ire) and a filly foal by Kingman (GB).
