Wildcat Red Headed to the Forego

Last Sunday's Teddy Drone S. winner Wildcat Red (D'wildcat) will step back up to graded stakes company in Saratoga's GI Forego S. Aug. 29.

Trainer Jose Garoffalo returned to his Gulfstream Park base, but the Honors Stable Corp runner will remain at Monmouth Park, where he scored his latest victory, until he ships to Saratoga in a couple of weeks for the Breeders' Cup “Win and You're In” event.

“He is back in perfect shape,” Garoffalo said. “He's going to the Forego. I think it's the best distance for him. It's going to be a tough race, but I think seven-eighths is his best distance.”

Winner of the GIII Hutcheson S. and GII Fountain of Youth S. last term, Wildcat Red kicked off this term with a fifth in the Florida Sunshine Millions Classic S. Jan. 17. Given some time off after that, the bay returned with a third-place finish in the GII Smile Sprint S. prior to the Teddy Drone.

“I'm really happy that he is back in shape after a hard campaign of about a year and a half. He showed he has a lot of class,” Garoffalo said. “I'm going to keep him at short distances now. He gained a lot of weight and more muscle. He looks like a sprinter.”
