Weatherbys Will Wait To Recognise The Everest And All-Star Mile As Group 1s

The Everest trophy | The Thoroughbred Report

Following the news released last week by The Thoroughbred Report that The Everest and the All-Star Mile had been elevated to Group 1 status by Racing Australia, Weatherbys will wait until they receive official confirmation from a relevant industry body, Weatherbys head of bloodstock and data James McHale told TDN Europe on Wednesday.

Although it has been reported, but not officially confirmed to TDN, that changes have been approved by the Asian Pattern Committee, the International Cataloguing Standards Committee (ICSC), Society of International Thoroughbred Auctioneers (SITA) and International Grading and Race Planning Advisory Committee (IRPAC) have not followed suit.

“Weatherbys is waiting for official confirmation from a relevant industry body–ICSC/ SITA/ IRPAC–that these race upgrades can be recognised internationally in sales catalogues,” McHale said.

Arion Pedigrees also refused Group 1 recognition of the two races on Monday, while the U.S. Jockey Club will record both races as Group 1s at this time.
