War Front Filly Bullet Speeds Home In My Dear

Bullet | Michael Burns

Having resisted the urge to take up an assignment at Royal Ascot after making a successful racecourse debut in the May 11 Royal Palm Juvenile Turf, D J Stable's Bullet  (War Front) switched to a synthetic surface for Saturday's My Dear S. and posted an equally eyecatching success.

Drawn gate seven, the $425,000 Keeneland September yearling raced in a share of fourth and four off the inside into the turn. Forced to concede ground as Carlisle Bay began to get away at the five-sixteenths, Bullet easily gathered that one up under hand encouragement a furlong and a half from home and shot clear to score like a 1-2 chalk should.

“She's one of them, trust me she's one of them,” said winning jockey Patrick Husbands, when asked where Bullet ranks on the list of the best 2-year-old fillies he's ridden. “You could do anything with this filly. You can go to the lead, you can do anything. She's all class–you can do anything with her.”

Bullet is out of a winning daughter of 2000 champion 3-year-old filly Surfside, who was purchased by Gainesway for $500,000 in foal to Giant's Causeway at Keeneland November in 2009, an in-utero purchase that became GSW Irish Surf. Third dam Flanders was the Eclipse Award-winning juvenile filly of 1994 when winning the GI Spinaway Stakes, GI Frizette Stakes and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Marlinspike foaled a full-sister to Bullet in 2023, a filly by Munnings this year and was bred to Olympiad. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.
