Twomey Has Yorkshire Oaks In Mind For Rosscarbery

Paddy Twomey | Tattersalls

Paddy Twomey is keen to move on from Rosscarbery's unsatisfactory Pretty Polly effort after the five-year-old suffered interference from the wayward winner Via Sistina (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) in the Curragh Group 1 on Saturday.

Rosscarbery (Ger) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) getting hampered at a vital stage in the race cost the filly a top three finish, according to Twomey, who labelled the incident “a pity” but is happy to look ahead to the Yorkshire Oaks next.

He said, “She's come out of the Curragh in good form. It was a pity what happened in the race as I think she'd have been in the first three with a clear passage.

“A-mile-and-a-quarter is her minimum trip–she stays a-mile-and-a-half and a-mile-and-six. She needs everything to go right at 10 furlongs, so to get stopped in her tracks like that wasn't ideal, but it is what it is and we move on to the next day.”

Rosscarbery has been a model of consistency since joining Twomey's stable last year. After climbing 29lbs and winning five races, including two at Group 3 level and achieving a runner-up spot in a Group 1 contest, Rosscarbery changed hands for 1 million gns at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale to continue her career for Lady Bamford.

Already a winner of the G3 Munster Oaks at Cork on her reappearance, Rosscarbery will be aimed at races at the top level for the second half of the campaign.

Twomey said, “We'll see what we do, but a race like the Yorkshire Oaks would be very suitable for her; a-mile-and-a-half with a long straight. I think a-mile-and-a-half sees her to best effect, as she showed in Cork in the Munster Oaks. We'll talk with the owners and make a plan, but the aim is to try to win a Group 1 if we can.”
