Twirling Candy's Iscreamuscream Refuses to Melt in San Clemente

Iscreamuscream | Benoit

With two wins in as many starts, Iscreamuscream (Twirling Candy) did not melt under pressure and remained undefeated in the GII San Clemente Stakes at Del Mar on opening day.

Perfect in a pair of turf sprints going six furlongs over the Santa Anita grass Oct. 14 and June 13, Iscreamuscream was the 6-5 chalk in her stakes debut Saturday.

Making her first start around two turns here, she was sent to the front and raced under pressure through fractions of :22.76 and :47.49. With four of them lined up at the top of the stretch, Iscreamuscream stayed on her left lead down most of the lane and dug down gamely to outlast her Phil D'Amato-trained stablemate Zona Verde (Ire) (Calyx {GB}) by 3/4 of a length.

Pedigree Notes:

Iscreamuscream becomes the 21st graded/53rd black-type winner for Twirling Candy.

Her graded stakes winning dam Silver Screamer is also represented by the 2-year-old colt Farasi (Global Campaign), a debut winner in Mexico.

Silver Screamer most recently brought $12,000 from Pillar Property Services while in foal to Global Campaign at the 2021 KEENOV sale. She was previously purchased by Upson Downs Farm with the winner in utero for $27,000 at the 2020 KEENOV sale.

After RNA'ing for $9,000 as KEENOV weanling, Iscreamuscream brought $55,000 from Pro Racing Stable as a KEESEP yearling. She brought $145,000 from Little Red Feather Racing after breezing an eighth in a bullet :9 4/5 out of the GOP Racing Stable consignment at OBS March.
