Toronado Filly On Top As Arqana October Enters Part III

A filly by Toronado topped the sale for the second session in a row | Elise Fossard/Arqana

A filly by Toronado (Ire) (lot 535) showed the way during the fourth day of the Arqana October Yearling Sale and the first day of Part III. Consigned by Hestia Farm, she was purchased for €50,000 by Nicolas Clement, John Hammond and TS Bloodstock on behalf of new syndicate Racing France.

Clement and Hammond have been busy sourcing horses for Racing France this season, and there are now approximately 10 horses involved so far. The idea behind Racing France is to encourage overseas owners to get involved in shared ownership in France.

Out of the three-time winner Velocite (Fr) (Iffraaj {GB}), the grey filly is a granddaughter of listed winner Barbayam (GB) (Stormy River {Fr}), who ran second in the G3 Prix Miesque. Farther back, this is the clan of multiple Group 1 winner and Classic scorer Sendawar (Ire) (Priolo).

Just one lot later, an Ulysses (Ire) filly caught the eye of Meridian International for €45,000. Consigned by Haras d'Haspel, she is out of Verandah (GB) (Medicean {GB}), a full-sister to Dimension (GB), a three-time graded winner in Canada, and a half-sister to G2 May Hill Stakes and G2 Windsor Forest Stakes heroine Spacious (GB) (Nayef). The latter was placed five times at the highest level, including in the 1000 Guineas.

Later in the day, Haras de Grandcamp's lot 561, a Dabirsim (Fr) filly, brought €42,000 from Minami Shinjuku, Ltd. A half- or full-sibling to six winners, the filly is related to GIII Vineland Handicap winner Capo Di Monte (Fr) (Konig Turf {Ger}), herself a half-sister to Wind In Her Hair (Ire) (Alzao), the dam of influential Japanese sire Deep Impact (Jpn).

At the close of trade, 80 yearling sold from 94 offered (85%) for a gross of €1,128,500. The average was €14,106 (-9.2%) and the median also dropped, coming in at €12,500 (-3.8%).

The fifth and final day of the Arqana October Yearling Sale continues at 11 a.m. on Saturday for the final day of Part III.
