Horseracing industry veteran Tom Ludt has been appointed head of U.S. operations for Phoenix Thoroughbreds, the organization announced Tuesday. Based in America, he will advise Phoenix Thoroughbreds on new sourcing opportunities and management of existing bloodstock.

Chief executive and board chairman of Horseco, Ludt served as president of Santa Anita Park previously from 2014-2015 for the Stronach Group and also served a two-year term as president of the Breeders' Cup Board of Directors from 2011-2013. He was president of Vinery Farms from 2004-2013.

Mr. Aamer Abdulaziz Salman, CEO of Phoenix Thoroughbreds, said in a statement, “With Tom's previous leadership roles in running Vinery Stud and racing for many years, and the Breeders' Cup and Santa Anita Racetrack recently, he brings with him great relationships and experience in the equine market. We couldn't be happier to add him to our team. We look forward to building our bloodstock operation and we are pleased that Tom is part of building the Phoenix legacy.”

Phoenix, active through bloodstock agent Kerri Radcliffe during the November sales in the U.S. and in Europe, celebrated their first Grade I win with Dream Tree (Uncle Mo) in the GI Starlet S. at Los Alamitos on Saturday. They also own a major interest in G1 Prix de la Foret hero Aclaim (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), who has retired to the National Stud in Newmarket for his first season in 2018.
