Tiz the Law Tunes Up for Belmont

Tiz the Law | Ryan Thompson

Sackatoga Stable's Tiz the Law (Constitution), last-out winner of the GI Florida Derby, tuned up for the June 20 GI Belmont S. with a five-furlong work in :59.75 (1/5) at Palm Meadows Sunday.

“He's doing fine. He had a nice work,” said trainer Barclay Tagg. “I sent a little filly here ahead of him so he had something to look at, and he caught her going down the stretch. I'll probably breeze him here next Sunday before we head back to New York.”

Tiz the Law won last year's GI Champagne S. and opened 2020 with a win in the GIII Holy Bull S. before his 4 3/4-length win in the Florida Derby last time out Mar. 28.

Tagg said the Belmont's shortened nine-furlong distance will be no problem for Tiz the Law.

“I haven't seen anything yet that didn't suit him. He always seems to handle things,” Tagg said.

Considered probable for the Belmont: Basin (Liam's Map), Charlatan (Speightstown), Farmington Road (Quality Road), Gouverneur Morris (Constitution), Max Player (Honor Code), Modernist (Uncle Mo), Nadal (Blame), Sole Volante (Karakontie {Jpn}), and Tiz the Law. Those considered possible for the race are: Maxfield (Street Sense), Ny Traffic (Cross Traffic), Shivaree (Awesome of Course).
