The Wow Signal Pleases in Work

John Quinn declared himself satisfied after Al Shaqab Racing's G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas hopeful The Wow Signal (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) went through his paces after racing at Pontefract under Frankie Dettori. Breaking from the mile start, the G2 Coventry S. and G1 Prix Morny winner worked over seven furlongs of the West Yorkshire venue, tracking the 90-rated Fuwairt (Ire) (Arcano {Ire}) with Ian Brennan aboard, before Dettori asked his partner to quicken off the bend. The Italian was a little animated as he came clear before being eased at the furlong marker, which was used as the line, finishing just over a length up after moving well throughout.

Quinn said, “The whole idea was to give him a day out. There are 26 days between today and the Guineas and this will have got him buzzed up nicely. I will obviously sit down with the owners before making a decision, but I'd say it is likely we'll go straight for the Guineas now.”

Dettori added, “He hasn't run for a while and still feels a bit stuffy, but physically he looks great. I'll probably ride him work once more before the Guineas and I'd say it is highly unlikely that he'll run in the Greenham. We know he's got an engine and he'll be a lot better come the Guineas. This was the first stepping stone and today was all about getting him revved up.”
