Following a victory in the Breeders' Cup Distaff in 2018, a series of setbacks kept five-time GI winner Monomoy Girl from the starting gate for the next year and a half. But Monomoy Girl has been progressing in training after a third comeback, and is set to make her debut for the 2020 season.
The five-time GI winner will be the star of Churchill Downs' opening day, facing six other fillies and mares in a one-mile $80,000 allowance optional claimer. Her competition includes dual stakes winner Fashion Faux Pas (Flatter), as well as the GI-placed, GIII-winning Talk Veuve to Me (Violence).
Trainer Brad Cox said, “It's been an uphill battle since the Breeders' Cup, but she's responded well this time around. We have her ready to run and she's moving great; she's happy.”
