Collected's First Crop Reflecting His Pedigree's Sire Power

Grade I winner and $3 million earner Collected will be represented by his first crop of yearlings at the upcoming sales this year. While the 2017 Pacific Classic S. winner is often likened to internationally influential sire Blushing Groom, an important member of the young sire's female family, breeders are finding that young progeny from Collected's first crops reflect the physical of their grandsire, the late perennial leading sire City Zip.

Champion Accelerate Stamping His First Crop of Yearlings

David Ingordo has undoubtedly inspected thousands of yearlings, many of whom went on to become Ingordo-purchased success stories, since he saw Accelerate (Lookin at Lucky) at the 2014 Keeneland September Sale. Nevertheless, the well-respected agent has a vivid memory of seeing Hip 1162 at the Bluewater Sales consignment, a May-foaled son of the stakes-placed Awesome Again mare Issues. Flash forward seven years after Ingordo purchased the yearling colt for $380,000, and Accelerate is now an Eclipse-earning, Breeders' Cup Classic-winning Lane's End sire with first yearlings hitting the market this summer.

As a broodmare sire, he has produced champion Stellar Wind (Curlin) and Breeders' Cup runner-up Bellafina (Quality Road). Just yesterday, he had his 21st 'TDN Rising Star' with Always Carina. More to Come for Protonico, Sire of Kentucky Derby Winner Medina Spirit

For all the round-the-clock pedigree scrutiny and conformation analysis that goes into finding a stallion that will produce a winner on the first Saturday in May, it took a horse standing for $5,000 and lacking that coveted Grade I win on their race record to get the job done. Of the 26 fifth-year stallions standing in Kentucky today, Protonico was one of five to breed less than 20 mares last year. Midshipman Charts New Course with Speedy Runners

He may not be flashiest sire on the Darley stud roster, but the quietly efficacious Midshipman (Unbridled's Song- Fleet Lady, by Avenue of Flags) might just be the most consistent. He ranks second amongst his studmates, behind Jonabell's elder statesman Medaglia d'Oro, in terms of blacktype runners to named foals at over a 12% clip, and his $7,500 stud fee this year only adds to his appeal. This year, Midshipman's runners are shining at the highest level. His progeny have already collected five blacktype wins with potential for bigger things...

Daredevil's Auspicious Return

A wise man changes his mind, but a fool never will. Such is the association between the commercial market and Daredevil (More Than Ready-- Chasethewildwind, by Forestry).
