A race after running into a 'TDN Rising Star' at Keeneland, Quantum Burst (Munnings) will now be the running line for many horses after she overwhelmed this maiden field to take home her own TDN Stamp of Approval Saturday evening.
Said fellow 'Rising Star' was Winstar Farm's Impulse Buy (Speightstown), who also earned the moniker at second asking at their mutual Keeneland start Oct. 5 at this distance. Once that one got to the lead, she never looked back, beating Quantum Burst by 11 lengths on the line. Swapping barns from Eddie Kenneally to Brendan Walsh since that jump, she was given a 9-2 chance by the betting public for her first start for the new training operation, here.
Overcoming brief contact with Everloving (Violence) at the start, she was content to let that one go on with it and stalked the leading pair through :23.13 and :46.36 fractions. Swung to the outside around the bend and the looming danger in the five path, she inhaled her competition entering the lane and was 5 1/2 lengths to the good on the wire. Everloving held on for second as the 3-5 favorite.
The victress is Munnings's 14th 'TDN Rising Star'.
Quantum Burst is the first foal to the races for her dam, who claimed a runner-up spot in the GIII Charles Town Oaks as well as two other black type events before retiring to the breeding shed. The mare produced no offspring after a visit to Liam's Map for 2023 but did have a 2024 Good Magic filly this year. She went to Street Sense for 2025.
This is the immediate female family of GI Florida Derby and [then so rated] GI Fountain of Youth hero Vicar (Wild Again) as well as SW Sheepscot (Easy Goer), whose claim to fame came via her sons-G1 French 2000 Guineas winner Astronomer Royal (Danzig) and course record-setter GSW Navesink River (Unbridled).
