A grandson of MGSW Barbarika, Curlin had been training smartly and went into the gate as the slight 2-1 favorite. The big chestnut came out running and had a clear lead heading into the turn. He didn't corner all that well approaching the stretch, but continued to extend his advantage despite drifting out and came home 12 3/4 lengths clear of the others. The winner was a $57,000 KEESEP yearling. Fellow firster Winstrella (Gone West) was the runner-up. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $22,800.
