Kaleem Shah’s Tijori (Will Take Charge), a $525,000 OBSMAR purchase (:10), became the first winner from the first crop of the 2013 champion 3-year-old colt Will Take Charge (Unbridled’s Song) with a ‘TDN Rising Star’ performance on debut at Santa Anita.
Off as the slight second-choice at odds of 2-1, she left the gate running and held a narrow advantage through an opening quarter in :22.33. The chestnut switched leads right on cue and blasted away in the stretch to graduate by 3 1/4 lengths. Factor of Two (The Factor) was second at 39-1.
The final time for 4 1/2 furlongs was :52.69.
When contacted by the TDN Friday afternoon, trainer Simon Callaghan said Tijori could possibly make her way to Royal Ascot next month.
“It’s definitely under strong consideration–she’s shown immense talent from day one, Callaghan said. “Whatever myself and Kaleem decide, she’s got a massive future.
Tijori’s multiple stakes-placed dam Anchorage (Tapit), a $540,000 Barretts March grad herself, had a colt by Will Take Charge in 2017 and was bred back to Runhappy. She has also produced Chip Leader (Giant’s Causeway), GSP, $256,951. Anchorage RNA’d for $160,000 while in foal to Will Take Charge at the 2015 KEENOV Sale. This is the extended female family of sire Broken Vow (Unbridled).
