Alter Call took her first turn in the spotlight when knocked down to China Horse Club for A$1.05-million nearly two years ago at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, making her the most expensive filly at that auction. With Newgate SF staying in for a piece of the filly, Alter Call made her debut Mar. 5 for then-trainer Peter Moody, finishing second to the more experienced Selenia (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus})--a subsequent Group 3 winner--in Flemington’s 1000-metre Listed Festival Of Racing S. Transferred to Price thereafter, Alter Call missed the spring carnival and was not seen again until this lower-key event on Sunday. Away strongly from the inside barrier, Alter Call led with ears pricked while Braemar (Aus)
(Commands {Aus}) pressed her on the outside. The stage appeared briefly set for a stretch-run tussle between Alter Call and Braemar, but Alter Call responded to a shake of the reins from Damien Oliver, kicking clear of her overmatched rival to win by nearly two lengths eased down. Alter Call's next call to action is likely to be in the A$2-million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Jan. 14. AIt was a good, confident win for her I thought,@ Oliver told Racing.com. AIt was pretty painless. She jumped well, controlled the tempo and gave a great kick. She’s a quality filly, it’s nice to see her come back in good order and I’m sure she’s going to be up to better races than this. Alter Call is the first foal out of Response, the winner of the G1 Robert Sangster S. and G1 Sir Rupert Clarke S. who was bought by SF Bloodstock for A$840,000 at Inglis‘s Easter Broodmare Sale in 2012. Four months after selling Alter Call on the Gold Coast, SF sold Response for A$1.5-million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale to Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm. Response has an as-yet unraced 2-year-old colt named De Gaulle (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), and yearling and filly foals by Snitzel (Aus). Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $34,250.
