Sobetsu was a promising debut third going seven furlongs in a winner-producing maiden at Newmarket’s July track in her only prior start Aug. 26, and was a class above her rivals in this one, winning by daylight in highly impressive fashion. Sharply into stride and in the firing line from the bell, the 11-10 favourite gained a slender advantage before halfway and surged ever clear under minimal coaxing inside the final quarter mile to hit the line a massive 10 lengths in advance of Interweave (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}). The homebred bay is out of dual stakes-winning G3 Prix de Flore third Lake Toya (Darshaan {GB}), herself kin to three black-type performers including stakes-winning G3 Prix des Chenes third Sixth Sense (Ire) (Shamardal) and G3 Musidora S. runner-up Glen Innes (Ire) (Selkirk). Lake Toya is a granddaughter of Doff the Derby (Master Derby), whose swathe of stakes performers include MG1SW champion Generous (Ire) (Caerleon) and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas and G1 Epsom Oaks-winning highweight Imagine (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells), who in turn produced five black-type individuals including G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere victor Horatio Nelson (Ire) (Danehill). Sobetsu also shares her third dam Doff the Derby with MG1SW distaffer and ‘TDN Rising Star’ Moonlight Cloud (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}). Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, £6,775.
