Gainesway Stable’s Cherry Lodge confirmed some glowing workout reports and strong betting support with a quality first-out maiden score at Saratoga to become the latest ‘TDN Rising Star’. Bet down to a nickel below 3-2, the bay broke sharply and showed the way through a :21.97 quarter-mile while pressed along by second choice Amapola (Broken Vow), who crossed the wire 9 3/4 lengths to the good in her Gulfstream debut before getting disqualified to sixth. The two of them entered a race of their own in the stretch, but Cherry Lodge stayed straight as a string along the inside as Amapola drifted about and the former held sway to prevail by three-quarters of a length. The winner is a full-sister to this barn’s Gala Award, GSW, $258,044, and is a half to Stormello (Stormy Atlantic), GISW, $700,100, hero of the 2006 GI Hollywood Futurity as a 2-year-old, and My Best Brother (Stormy Atlantic), GSW, $363,392.
