Phipps homebred Promote made a dazzling last-to-first run to break his maiden on debut at Belmont and become the newest ‘TDN Rising Star’. Sent off at 8-1, the bay broke well before dropping back to the tail of the field in the first furlong. Moving up one spot but still close to 10 lengths off a :22.25 quarter, Promote started to rally in earnest passing the five-sixteenths marker. Splitting horses in midstretch, he soon became the only closing threat to frontrunner Art Boss (Street Boss) and kicked on strongly in the final sixteenth under minimal urging to inhale that foe and score by two lengths going away in 1:09.62. The winner’s second dam is this stable’s Champion older mare and six-time Grade I winner Inside Information (Private Account), who produced Champion 3-year-old filly Smuggler (Unbridled). Collusion has a 2-year-old Street Boss filly named Culpa Mia and a yearling filly by Point Given. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $45,000.
