Width graduated at first asking Sunday afternoon at Saratoga, overcoming a wide run around the turn to become the newest ‘TDN Rising Star’. The filly drilled six times over the local strip in preparation for this career debut and perhaps tipped her hand with a bullet four-panel move in :48.25 Aug. 9. Taking solid public support as the 7-2 third choice, the homebred settled to race off the pace in the early stages as Reincarnation (Malibu Moon) and True Pleasure (Yes It’s True), both with the benefit of previous race experience, dueled through a quarter-mile in :22.33. Width readily moved for the lead while four wide on the far turn, poked her head in front at the head of the stretch and pulled clear to a 2 1/2-length victory over True Pleasure under moderate urging. Width hails from a deep Claiborne female family. She is the fifth foal out of Extent, making her a half-sister to GSW Size (First Samurai). Extent has a War Front yearling filly and was bred back to Blame this year. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $49,800.
