Having been close to the Goffs Orby record in October, Ol' Man River had a significant weight of expectation on his shoulders coming here after being scratched from his intended debut at Leopardstown earlier this month. Unhurried early from his wide draw, the 11-10 favorite whose dam is the brilliant 2007 G1 1000 Guineas and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Finsceal Beo (Ire) (Mr. Greeley) cruised along on the outer without cover and gradually crept forward from his initial mid-division pitch at his own leisure. Shaken up with a quarter mile to race, the extremely handsome bay was in front just before the furlong pole and only needed to be shown the whip on one occasion thereafter to comfortably best Aared (Ire) (Shamardal) by 3/4 of a length, with Vilman (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) a length away in third.
