Street Life was a well-beaten eighth sprinting on debut at Gulfstream Jan. 5, but had gotten quite the boost to his form earlier in the day, as show horse Good Morning Diva (Lion Heart) and fourth-place finisher Majestic Officer (Officer) both broke their respective maidens down at Gulfstream. The 4-1 shot was basically distanced early, falling as many as five lengths back of the next runner behind a half in :48.82. Still nowhere to be found as the field turned for home, the dark bay struggled briefly with his lead changes as he tipped to the far outside for his stretch run. He turned on the afterburners once he leveled off, and bore down on leader Quorom (Spellbinder) in the final furlong. Quorom came out a bit, so Junior Alvarado maneuvered Street Life to the rail, and he cruised on by to a 2 1/2-length head turner. Quorom held second by a head over Five Sixteen (Invasor {Arg}). The winner, a $130,000 KEENOV weanling and $130,000 KEESEP yearling, is out of a half-sister to the good MGSW and GISP turfer Brilliant (War Chant). She has a 2-year-old by Malibu Moon and a yearling by Stormy Atlantic. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $39,405.
