Shook Up lugged in at the start of her seven-panel debut in the slop at Churchill Downs Nov. 23 and continued to overcome obstacles as she was handed a five-wide trip early, followed by plenty of traffic on the backstretch. Hard-held in the lane, she made an impressive three-wide bid to close the leader's widening gap. She was a little too late, however, and had to settle for a close second just 3/4 of a length behind Skywarn (Congrats), a half-sister to MGISW Close Hatches (First Defence). Hammered down to 2-5 favoritism for this two-turn debut over another wet surface, the regally-bred gray stalked from second through moderate early splits of :23.77 and :48.11. Sweeping past the pacesetter entering the far turn, Shook Up effortlessly splashed clear in the lane to win for fun by a 13 1/2 lengths over stablemate Echo Warrior (Tiznow). The final time for the one-mile and 70-yard test was 1:44.42. Shook Up is the daughter of GI Santa Maria H. heroine Sugar Shake, who also won the GII El Encino S. and GIII Turnback the Alarm H. Sugar Shake sold for $825,000 at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton November sale in foal to Bernardini. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $31,600.
