Lady Shipman set a pressured pace and tired to finish third, beaten two lengths, as the 6-5 chalk going 5 1/2 furlongs in her Gulfstream West dirt debut Oct. 18. Switching to grass after posting a pair of easy works here, the 8-5 chalk was not for catching. On the engine through fractions of :21.89 and :45.23, the chestnut began to edge clear on the far turn and impressively dropped the hammer in the stretch to win by 11 1/4 lengths. Lady Master (Into Mischief), off at odds of 55-1, completed a $165.20 exacta. Lady Shipman becomes the 15th winner for her freshman sire (by Unbridled's Song).
