Basateen was green but promising when third on debut behind stable companion Lexington Times (Ire) (Paco Boy {Ire}) over this trip on a soft surface at Newmarket July 11 and broke much more professionally here to race enthusiastically in a narrow lead after the first quarter mile. Given a shake of the reins passing the three-furlong pole, the 5-6 favorite stretched clear under hands and heels to register an impressive eight-length success from Mulzamm (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}), with Best Dressed (GB) (Pastoral Pursuits {GB}) a length away in third.
