Tale of Ekati, the first foal to race out of a half-sister to champion Sky Beauty, completed his preparations with a five-furlong move in 1:00 from the gate June 30 and was 11-10 to score at first asking. Second choice Globalization (Touch Gold) showed the best speed, allowing Tale of Ekati to stalk from the outside. Clearly going the better of the two at the head of the stretch, he lengthened stride beautifully and charged home an 8 1/4-length winner. Anakim (Giant's Causeway) rallied for second, four lengths ahead of the tiring Globalization. Maplejinsky was acquired for $2.7 million at the 1994 Keeneland November Sale and exported to Japan. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $31,200.
