Twenty Percent stamped himself as one to watch with an impressive debut score here. The dark bay, a $45,000 KEESEP yearling purchase, geared up for this by firing a best-of-19 three-furlong bullet in :35 at Santa Anita Mar. 17. Sent off at 6-1, he was outsprinted early in sixth through an opening quarter in :21.45. With the red-hot Mike Smith aboard, Twenty Percent began to wind up while four-wide on the turn for home and finished up like a good thing to score by 3 1/4 impressive lengths. Fellow firster Midnight Storm (Pioneerof the Nile) was second. Justa Splash (Harlan's Holiday) never threatened while sixth. The victor is a half-brother to Target Sighted (Not for Love), MSW, $234,992; All Smiles (Awesome Again), MSW & GSP, $211,245; and Two Punch Gal (Two Punch), SW, $141,583. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $33,600.
