Cassatt was hammered down to 70 cents on the dollar for top connections and gave her backers a few anxious moments when locked away in traffic on the turn in this sophomore debut. But she punched through from between rivals entering the final furlong and finished full of run to prove a handy 4 1/4-length winner. A $300,000 Keeneland September graduate for an outfit that's had its fair share of success with this sire (i.e. Joyful Victory, Normandy Invasion), Cassatt had one previous start under her belt going two turns over the Churchill main track Sept. 20. Sent off at the same 7-10 odds, she set fairly comfortable fractions, but gave way readily in the lane and crossed the line third, though she was promoted to second via disqualification. Cutting back to six furlongs for this, Cassatt was fourth and just in behind the pacesetting Chardonnay Sherry (Artie Schiller) and Mizzen Moon (Mizzen Mast) to the bend. Loaded and only in need of somewhere to run in upper stretch, she found the room she was crying out for a furlong out and sprinted home as much the best. Chardonnay Sherry held well for second over Mizzen Moon. The winner's unraced dam is a half-sister to champion Dreaming of Anna (Rahy), her full-brother Lewis Michael and MGSW & GISP Justenuffhumor (Distorted Humor). Her third dam produced champion and leading sire Kitten's Joy (El Prado {Ire}) as well as treble Grade I winner Precious Kitten (Catienus).
