Pazolini was jostled after the break of his debut and finished a wide seventh at Saratoga Aug. 3. Getting Lasix for the first time, the 2-1 chance was away well and rated four wide at the back of the field through the early stages. The $875,000 FTFMAR purchase circled the field on the bend, cruised up to take the lead by midstretch and, still under a hand ride, pulled away to win by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:09.72. Doctor J Dub (Sharp Humor) completed the exacta and 2-5 favorite Taketothestreets (Street Boss) was third. "We thought we were in tough with a 2-5 shot in the race, but we really liked him," said trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. "He was an expensive 2-year-old trainee and trained very well, but then he ran poorly and then we had to do throat surgery on him--a tie back, which was successful. He's been training great. We thought he might be in a little trouble with the one, but we were very pleased with the way he ran." As for his next start, McLaughlin said, "We're going to send him to New York and look for an 'a other than." Co-bred by Darley, Pazolini was sold to Hartley De Renzo as a yearling before being purchased by Darley as a 2-year-old.
