A $450,000 KEESEP yearling, Bakken was making his belated debut here as the 8-5 pick and showed himself to be a horse with a big future. Pushed hard by Javier Castellano to take control early, Bakken led by 1 1/2 lengths through :22.31 and :44.94 splits. He kicked clear impressively two furlongs out and sailed home clear by 6 1/2 lengths. The bay colt is a half to Justwhistledixie (Dixie Union), MGSW, $449,427; and Chace City (Carson City), GSW, $152,965. His year-younger half-sibling Tapas (Tapit) RNA'd for $325,000 as a 2012 KEESEP yearling and is currently in training at Saratoga. A yearling half-brother by Smart Strike was not offered at auction.
