Our Amazing Rose, produced by a half-sister to Minister's Melody (Deputy Minister), GSW, $451,470, and from the extended family of Grade I winner Bob and John (Seeking the Gold), wasn't much of a secret at 2-5 and lived up to the hype with a sparkling performance. Chasing early from second through an opening quarter in :21.80, the $325,000 OBSMAR graduate (:09 4/5 Breeze Video) inhaled the leader on the far turn, and dropped the hammer in the stretch to win by daylight while under a hand ride. It was 7 3/4 lengths back to Snowbell (Tapit) in second. Our Amazing Rose completed the five-furlong distance in :57.68; her stablemate, the colt Corfu (Malibu Moon) (see below), covered the same trip in :58.27 two races earlier. "She had been training very well," trainer Todd Pletcher reported. "She had actually trained with Mike Repole's other filly, Stopchargingmaria, who won here on opening day. We felt like we had a pretty good line on her. It's been kind of hard to separate the two of them in the mornings." As for what's next Pletcher added, "I suppose the [GI] Spinaway [Sept. 1] would be a good possibility. We'll see how she bounces out of it." Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $48,000.
