Pacific Heat, who topped last year’s Barretts October sale on a bid of $175,000 from Joe Ciaglia, brought the heat and turned in one of the most impressive performances of the meeting on the final day of the stand Friday. Bet into 9-2 from a somwhat curious morning line of 8-1, the bay filly jumped alertly and was chased along by Rafael Bejarano to take up the running after a furlong. She covered the half-mile in a strong :45.54, but once she kicked over to her right lead at the quarter pole, she hit another gear to report home a whopping 13 1/2-length winner, then galloped out to John Wayne Airport. Pacific Heat’s dual turf stakes-winning dam was purchased by Harris Farms and Don Valpredo in foal to Street Boss for $47,000 at the 2011 Keeneland November sale. That foal is now named Long Hot Summer (Street Boss, SW & GSP, $228,670), the $260,000 topper at the 2014 Barretts May sale who won the 2014 Generous Portion S. and was a good second in this year’s GIII Seniorita S. The late Mike Mitchell signed that ticket for owners Anthony Fanticola and Joesph Scardino. Hotlantic is the dam of a yearling colt by Unusual Heat’s champion son Acclamation and produced a full-brother to Pacific Heat this past May 19. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $30,000.
