He tried the dirt Jan. 21, but wound up eighth in that seven-furlong heat won by the highly regarded Latent Heat. Stretching out here, the 6-5 chalk stalked the pace from third, delivered his run three wide on the far turn and kicked clear smartly, winning by three lengths under a hand ride.
