Sent off the 11-4 second favorite, Kingman was tardy from the gates but soon recovered to race behind the leading trip among the group racing towards the stand's side. Quickening before the quarter pole, the bay was in front soon after and powered clear under hand riding to score by six lengths from Adhwaa (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), with Sea the Skies (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) a further five lengths back in third. "He's a nice colt and I've liked the way he has worked and come through," trainer John Gosden commented. "I'm not sure about the second and about what happened to the favorite, so we'll see the value of the form but he's progressive and the time is good. He's a little bit nervous when the gates open and has to take a look, but I told Ryan [Moore] it would be that way. If they are sleepy, it's a good thing when they are young. We may look at a race like the G3 Solario S. [at Sandown Aug. 31] and maybe something after that, as he's not a horse you'd want to go hard at throughout the summer. If the ground did get a little soft, he'd handle that as his mother did. It's still early days, but he's one who is at the forefront of my two-year-olds at the moment. He's a lovely-looking horse with a good mind."
