'TDN Rising Star' Parenting Strong In Affirmed S. At Santa Anita, Haskell Could Be Next

Parenting | Benoit

With a spring in his step down the lane, it was 'TDN Rising Star' Parenting (Justify) who won his first black-type in the Affirmed S. at Santa Anita Park on Sunday.

The colt made his debut a success when he won by 2 3/4 lengths at 'The Great Race Place' Apr. 26. That effort earned him 'TDN Rising Star' honors.

Trying two turns and against much tougher company here, Parenting was backed at 80 cents on the dollar. The Bob Baffert trainee got down to business heading into the first turn and began to tussle with Scatify (Justify). As the pair dueled through the far turn, it was the bay who gained the upper hand and sailed home impressively over his rival.

Parenting is owned by Gandharvi, but the stable recently offered shares in the 3-year-old through CMWLTH, the same company linked to GI Kentucky Derby hero Mage (Good Magic). A tweet after the race by Gandharvi said, “Haskell here we come!” The GI Haskell S. at Monmouth is July 20.

A half-sister to Canadian champion turf male El Tormenta (Stormy Atlantic) and GSW Zero Tolerance (Mizzen Mast), the winner's dam is responsible for a yearling colt by Vekoma. She was bred to both Maclean's Music and Midnight Lute for this term. This is the family of MGSW His Race to Win (Stormy Atlantic) and Canadian juvenile filly champion Hello Seattle.
