The sixth WTBOA (Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association) Stallion Season Auction is now open for bidding through Friday, Dec. 22 at 11 p.m. ET. No fewer than 83 different stallions and sires representing Kentucky, California, Florida, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oregon and Washington are in this year's mix. WTBOA Sale to Feature Yearlings, Broodmares, and a 2YO Aug. 22

The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association (WTBOA) has catalogued 77 yearlings, one 2-year-old, and 17 broodmares for the WTBOA Sale, which will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the WTBOA Sales Pavilion located at Emerald Downs in Auburn, WA. The sale will kick off at 1 p.m. with an auctioned trip to the 2023 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita with proceeds benefitting the Washington Thoroughbred Foundation. WTBOA Stallion Season Auction Live

The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association (WTBOA)'s annual online stallion season auction kicked off Dec. 15 and will run through Dec. 22. Ralph Vacca Memorial August 14

A celebration of the life of longtime Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association general manager Ralph Vacca will be held at the Morris J. Alhadeff Sales Pavilion at Emerald Downs Aug. 14 at 3:30 p.m. Vacca spent 47 years at the WTBOA, moving up the ladder to serve as general manager from May 1973 until his retirement in December 2007. He also spent several years in Kentucky, working at Stoner Creek Farm, Claiborne Farm, the Daily Racing Form and the Thoroughbred Record. Vacca passed away last July at 84.

Bodenheimer Named Washington Horse of the Year

Kristin Boice and Marylou Holden's Bodenheimer (Atta Boy Roy), winner of the Indian Summer S. as a 2-year-old last season at Keeneland, was named Washington's Horse of the Year during the state's annual awards celebration held via Zoom Saturday evening. The dark bay colt was also named champion turf horse and shared co-champion 2-year-old honors with undefeated Dutton (Noosito). Also during Saturday's ceremony, Time For Gold (Harbor the Gold) was named champion 2-year-old filly and her owners, Chad Christensen and Josh McKee, were the state's leading owners of Washington-breds. Smiling Tiger Colt Tops WTBOA Summer Yearling and Mixed Sale

For the second time in the last four years, a colt by Smiling Tiger topped the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association's annual summer sale, which was again held at the WTBOA Sales Pavilion located at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Wa., Aug. 18. The sale topper, Hip 57, was purchased for $70,000 by Brian Koriner, acting on behalf of Jay Em Ess Stable (Samantha Siegel) from the Critter Creek Farm consignment, agent for PT Syndicate #1 LLC.
