Turfway Park to Remain Open for Year-Round Training

Following the close of the Winter/Spring Meet at Turfway Park Apr. 1, the barn area and racetrack will remain open for year-round training and stabling, it was announced Tuesday.  Trainers wishing to fill out a stall application can visit www.TurfwayPark.com or contact Peggy Pate at [email protected]. Stall applications are due by Mar. 24. This year, Turfway Park finished construction on a new dormitory for backstretch workers and five new barns. Turfway Park and Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment have announced an extension to their partnership and will remain the presenting sponsor of the $700,000 GIII Jeff Ruby Steaks for an additional five years. Trainer Reed Gets 5-Day Suspension For Bute Positive At Turfway

Trainer Eric Reed has been penalized with a five-day suspension and a $1,000 fine for a phenylbutazone positive in a $15,000 claiming winner last month at Turfway Park. According to a Feb. 1 Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) stewards' ruling, the 2022 GI Kentucky Derby-winning trainer waived his right to a hearing and will serve his days Feb. 10-14 without lodging an appeal. Turfway Park Alters Winter/Spring Schedule

Beginning Jan. 21, racing under the lights will now be consistent across the Turfway Park calendar as the Saturday post time will shift from 12:45 p.m. to 5:55 p.m. (EST). The lone exception to the new Saturday post will be Mar. 25 for Jeff Ruby Steaks Day where the card will be conducted during the afternoon. The Winter/Spring Meet will run through Saturday, Apr. 1.
