Tom Amoss Talks Apple Blossom, COVID-19

It has been a tough couple of months for trainer Tom Amoss, whose father Jim passed away due to the coronovirus earlier this month. Amoss had his own personal scare as he went into quarantine after shaking the hand of New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton after a race at Oaklawn Park. Payton announced a few days later, he was positive for the virus. But Amoss remains upbeat as he tries to manage his stable through these difficult times.

The Week in Review: Louisiana Mystery Horse Spices Up Derby Trail

There's never been a GI Kentucky Derby contender quite like No Parole (Violence), who stayed undefeated when winning Saturday's Premier Night Prince S. at Delta Downs. He may not be the best 3-year-old in the country, but he is certainly the most intriguing. How good is he? It's impossible to tell. His route to the Derby has included a maiden race, an allowance race and the Prince, all races against fellow Louisiana-breds. Normally, anyone winning those races wouldn't register on anyone's radar, but this horse is different. The 'TDN Rising...

'Rising Star' No Parole Takes No Prisoners in Prince S.

Tom Amoss has taken this slowly with No Parole (Violence), allowing him to progress through the restricted Louisiana-bred ranks. But it's likely on to bigger and better for the colt, who posted a third consecutive dominating victory in annexing his first two-turn test in Saturday's Louisana Premier Night Prince S. at Delta Downs. Drawn outside in a field of six, No Parole found his way to the front with a minimum of fuss and settled very kindly through an internal second quarter mile that was timed in nearly 26 seconds....

Ghostzapper Filly Rolls En Route to 'Rising Star' Honors

Charming Lady (Ghostzapper) spotted her rivals two to three lengths with a slow break and then a left-hand turn, but she easily made up for the miscue and ran away from them late en route to 'TDN Rising Star' honors Saturday afternoon at the Fair Grounds. It is the second Tom Amoss trainee to secure the designation, following on No Parole (Violence) Jan. 11. Pounded into 7-10 favoritism off a very imposing worktab, the $185,000 Fasig-Tipton October Yearling turned $400,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic breezer (:10 2/5) quickly recovered to race on...

Louisiana-bred Gives Violence Second Rising Star of the Day

Maggi Moss's No Parole (Violence), a 14 1/4-length debut winner here Dec. 15--good for a 90 Beyer Speed Figure--again proved too much for his Louisiana-bred foes to handle as he romped to become the third 'TDN Rising Star' of the day and second by Hill 'n' Dale's Violence. Off at prohibitive 1-5 odds, the $75,000 KEESEP yearling seized command early in the wet going, clicked off splits of :21.79 and :44.45 and cruised home all by his lonesome with just a couple of reminders before being geared down late to...

Juveniles Take Center Stage in Saratoga Special

Long Weekend (Majesticperfection), an impressive five-length debut winner going five furlongs at Churchill Downs June 23, takes on seven rivals in Saturday's GII Saratoga Special S. The field that day included subsequent jaw-dropping 'TDN Rising Star' Dennis' Moment (Tiznow), who clipped heels early and lost his rider. "It's not so much the [6 1/2 furlongs] distance, it's more [facing] a higher-caliber field," trainer Tom Amoss said. "We think he's a good horse, but for that to be true, he has to show it on Saturday. That's the concerns of ours--how...
