Siyouni's Arqana August Sensation Impresses On Debut

There was a pair of intriguing newcomers' events staged on Chantilly's Polytrack on Thursday and the fillies' contest saw a taking successful debut for the €700,000 purchase Tigress Of Gaul (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}--Lucerne {GB}, by Frankel {GB}). Sent off the 9-10 favourite for the mile contest, the joint-second highest-priced filly at last year's Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale tracked the leading quartet early under a patient Aurelien Lemaitre. Taking command with 300 metres remaining, the Tim Donworth-trained bay who is owned by Jose Aguirre-Moreno and her breeder Ecurie des Monceaux...

Seven Days: Jumping Back to the Flat

Yes, I know. It's a bit early for this, isn't it? We usually have a strict No-Seven-Days rule until the week after the Brocklesby but this winter has dragged on and on and I just can't wait any longer. We have the small matter of the Cheltenham Festival to get through this week, and we'll be giving it our full attention, but as we have counted down the days to the 'The Roar' it has been impossible to ignore the sneaky French getting their Turf season underway with a couple...

In the Hot Seat: Tim Donworth

Chantilly trainer Tim Donworth is the latest to face the TDN question master. What are your goals for 2024? To train more winners than 2023. More winners each year while maintaining the strike-rate has to be the goal really. Give us a horse to follow... Fathom (Ire) (Almanzor {Fr}), a big, tall filly who got black type for me last year I think she will be nice three-year-old. And a young person in the industry to keep an eye on... Joe Callan of Whitsbury Manor Stud. Who do you think...

Saratoga's Hall Of Fame S. Rescheduled Friday

After a deluge of rainfall this past week in the Saratoga Springs area, last Friday's $500,000 GII National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame S. for 3-year-old colts at a mile over the grass was postponed seven days, as an interesting mix of American and European invaders reconvene on the Inner Turf. With conditions which could be soft to yielding, trainer Chad Brown saddles three entries with GISP Appraise (Ire) Kodiac {GB}), Mischievous Angel (Into Mischief) and Carl Spackler (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), while also present is the winner...

Flying Start For Donworth With Trio Of Juvenile Winners

DEAUVILLE, France--Back at Arqana's yearling sale in August, Tim Donworth had just left the employment of Jean-Claude Rouget with a view to setting out his own stall from Sept. 1. The racing gods have smiled kindly in the meantime, and the 27-year-old is now almost eight weeks into his training career with three winners and a second from just five starters.  Those three victories have all come during this week's sale at Arqana, starting on Sunday at Le Mans with Cotai Hero (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) and, like buses, the...

Donworth Joins The Chantilly Training Ranks

Among the current top ten trainers in France are two graduates of the Godolphin Flying Start course: Francis Graffard and Jerome Reynier. These are big footsteps in which to follow for the latest former Flying Start student to try his hand at training, and what sets Tim Donworth apart is that France is not his native country. He was, however, born to a life with horses. The 27-year-old grew up on Round Hill Stud in Co Limerick, which is owned by his parents Bobby and Honora and has also been...
