During the Wednesday running of race five at Saratoga Race Course, a $50,000 starter allowance going nine furlongs over the turf, Wisecraken (McCraken) sustained a catastrophic injury to his right hind leg, Pat McKenna, NYRA's Vice President of Communications, said via email Wednesday afternoon. Despite the immediate response of on-site veterinarians, the horse was humanely euthanized due to the severity of the injury. The 3-year-old gelding owned by Ironhorse Racing Stable LLC was trained by Michelle Nevin and ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr., who was uninjured.

Racing dates for the 21st season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis were approved by the Indiana Horse Racing Commission (IHRC) at their regular meeting Dec. 1 held at Harrah's Hoosier Park. Woodbine's Senior Vice President of Standardbred and Thoroughbred Racing Jessica Buckley resigned from her position to pursue other opportunities, according to a press release circulated on Twitter Friday. The Kentucky Derby Museum Stable re-opens Friday at 10 a.m. after a two-year closure due to COVID-19. It will also be the first look at the Museum's new miniature horse and Resident Thoroughbred. The Museum will also announce the name of the mini horse from its naming contest.

The under-tack show for the upcoming OBS March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale kicks off Thursday with the first of three sessions. Hips 1-212 breeze during Thursday's session, followed by Hips 213-424 Friday and Hips 425-635 Saturday. Each session begins at 8 a.m. The OBS March Sale runs Mar. 15-16 with a 10 a.m. start each day.
