Aftercare Summit To Take Place at Thoroughbred Makeover

The third annual Thoroughbred Aftercare Summit will take place Tuesday, Oct. 12 as part of the Retired Racehorse Project's Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of America. Hagyard Partners with TCA in Race to Give

The "Race to Give," an online giving and awareness program to support Thoroughbred aftercare was launched Wednesday by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute and Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA). TCA Awards Annual Grants

Grants totaling over $788,000 were awarded this year, Thoroughbred Charities of America announced Wednesday. Eighty two grant applications were received earlier this year during the organization's annual grant cycle. Ultimately, 69 organizations were approved for a grant, including 46 aftercare organizations, 14 backstretch and farm worker programs, five equine-assisted therapy organizations, three Thoroughbred incentive programs, and one research organization. Sales Industry Support TCA Charities

Donations from several of last season's sales raised over $100,000 to assist backstretch and farm worker-focused Thoroughbred Charities of America charities. The funds will be awarded to approved grant applicants during TCA's current granting cycle. TCA Stallion Season Auction Set for January

Thoroughbred Charities of America will hold its 31st Annual Stallion Season Auction from Wednesday, Jan. 6 through Tuesday, Jan. 12, TCA announced Tuesday. It is the largest annual fundraiser for the nonprofit organization. The fundraiser opens with an online auction of stallion seasons beginning at 9 a.m. EST Jan. 6 and continues through 4:30 p.m. EST Jan. 8. Woodbine Entertainment Gives Back to Backstretch Community

Woodbine Entertainment has announced a trio of initiatives designed to support the 130 people living on the backstretch at Woodbine Racetrack during the winter months. Woodbine has partnered with the Horses First Fund, which will sponsor a nutritious, hot meal each week. The program will start Wednesday, Dec. 23. Godolphin and Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) have launched a mobile application for backstretch and farm workers. The app, called Cómo, connects Thoroughbred industry employees to the vital services they need through a network of chaplains and Thoroughbred industry organizations. Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium Postponed to 2021

The board of the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) has made the unanimous decision to postpone the 2020 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA), until 2021. The RRP plans to host an expanded Thoroughbred Makeover Oct. 12-17, 2021 that will offer separate classes in all 10 disciplines for both 2020 and 2021 entries.
