Fasig-Tipton, Keeneland Announce Revised Procedures For TAA Funding

Fasig-Tipton Company, Inc. and Keeneland Association representatives announced revised procedures to provide funding to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA).  Beginning with the 2020 yearling sales, all sellers/owners will be charged 0.05% of the sales price (for example, $50 on a $100,000 sale) on each horse sold at public auction with the two companies. Previously, sellers have had the opportunity to "opt out" of the TAA contribution. Ashton Moynihan Passes Away

Ashton Moynihan, the funding director of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, passed away Friday afternoon after a long battle with cancer. Moynihan grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she graduated from Sweet Briar College. Her father, Harrison "Chief" Nesbit was a football player and then coach at the University of Virginia. Her first job was selling advertising for an equine publication. Her love of horses led her to New York, where she worked for a Thoroughbred racing partnership, and finally to Lexington, Kentucky. Stettin Wins Handicapping Tournament, Donates Prize to TAA

Professional handicapper and owner of PastTheWire.com Jonathan Stettin won the inaugural Handicapping for Horses Tournament this past August in Saratoga and donated his prize money to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. The prize money will be presented to the TAA during the Jan. 24 card at Gulfstream Park. TAA Accreditation Application Now Available

Organizations wishing to apply for accreditation by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) are now available.  Applications are due by Apr. 1, 2020 at 6 p.m. ET. Only organizations with their accreditation status set to expire in 2020 that want to remain accredited need to re-apply. Accreditation status is determined after a complete review of five areas of an aftercare organization: operations, education, horse health care management, facility standards and services, and adoption policies and protocols. Sequel Open House to Benefit TAA

Sequel Stallions New York will hold an open house Sunday, Jan. 19, from 12-4 p.m. at the farm in Hudson. Originally scheduled as a stallion show with a sit-down dinner and giveaways, the format has changed to a light lunch with stallions shown throughout the day. Social Media Campaign Launched to Honor OTTBs at Eclipse Awards

In addition to honoring excellence in 17 equine and human categories this year, the 49th annual Eclipse Awards on Jan. 23 will pay tribute to those Thoroughbreds who have moved on to a second athletic career.
