Doug Anderson Named Chief Steward of The Jockey Club of Canada

Doug Anderson has been named chief steward of The Jockey Club of Canada, effective June 29. Anderson succeeds R. Glenn Sikura, who served two three-year terms as chief steward. Anderson, an owner of Sovereign Award winners A Bit o' Gold and Millie Girl, breeds a small band of mares in Ontario each year and races as Braconcrest Inc. He is on the board of the CTHS (Ontario Division) and avidly supports Thoroughbred retirement, visiting and riding his own retirees multiple times weekly. A series of presentations at race tracks across the nation will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Jockey Club of Canada, the organization said in a release late Wednesday. The Jockey Club of Canada Hosts the Sovereign Awards

The Jockey Club of Canada will host the annual Sovereign Awards, a ceremony to honor Canada's champions of 2022, and outstanding achievement in Thoroughbred racing and breeding. Held in Toronto, the 48th edition will take place April 13, 2023. Slight Changes to Sovereign Award Guidelines

The Jockey Club of Canada, which recognizes outstanding achievements in Canadian Thoroughbred racing and breeding with the annual Sovereign Awards, is implementing changes to the guidelines for some of the awards, effective for the current year.
